TheRecordXchange® co-founder and chief product officer Steve Townsend is speaking at the Center for Legal & Court Technology's 2026 AI & Courts Conference, October 12–13 at William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. His focus is the court record, where AI is already doing real work in courts today.

When is Steve Townsend speaking?

AI & Court Record Program · Tuesday, October 13 · 10:30–11:15 a.m. ET

Steve brings more than 30 years in court record technology to the program, along with a clear position: AI accelerates the work, but the official record remains a human responsibility.

What do courts actually need from AI?

Most AI conversations in the justice system start with what the technology can do. This conference starts with what courts say they need. Judges, administrators, and technologists each get their own panel before AI companies take the stage.

When courts answer that question, the court record is one of the most practical places to start. Transcript backlogs, turnaround times, and the cost of getting the record are problems courts already have, and AI with a human in the loop is already helping courts address them.

What is the AI & Courts Conference?

This year's theme is AI & Courts: What Capabilities Do Our Courts Want and Need? The Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT), a joint venture of William & Mary Law School and the National Center for State Courts, brings judges, court administrators, court technologists, and AI companies together to examine how AI can and should be integrated into the justice system. Co-sponsors include the National Center for State Courts, the International Institute for Justice Excellence, the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, and the University of Montreal Cyberjustice Laboratory.
